Pastor Dixon confessed hope in Christ at the age of 12 under the leadership of Reverend J. Herbert Spencer of the Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church of Holt, Alabama. He was a member of Elizabeth Baptist Church of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and a member of New Jerusalem Missionary Baptiist Church of Muskegon, Michigan. Pastor Dixon received an honorable discharge from the United States Nvy where he served his country from 1954 through 1956. He received his post high school education from C.A. Fredd Technical College of Tuscaloosa, Alabama and later attended Detriot Bible College and Jordan College of Detroit, Michigan and Southeastern Bible College of Birmingham, Alabama. Pastor Dixon's contributions to the field of religion have been outstanding. He responded to his call to the ministry in 1967 in Buffalo, New York. He was licensed and ordained in October 1969 under the leadership of his father in the ministry, Reverend William T. Vernon of the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church of Pontiach, Michigan. He loved traveling and singing praises to God. Most of his singing ministry was with the Wondering Travelers of Pontiac, Michigan. Pastor Dixon returned to the state of Alabama in 1971 and beagan his pastorage at the Mount Tabor Missionary Baptist Church of Brent, Alabama in 1972. He has pastored several churches in Alabama (Saint Stephens Baptist Church of Sawyerville, Alabama; New Hope Baptist Church of Demopolis, Alabama; Mount Zion Baptist Church of Selma, Alabama; Woodlawn Baptist Church of Uniontown, Alabama, and New Bethlehem Baptist Church of Dolomite, Alabama). He relocated to the state of Michigan and pastored the Spring Street Missionary Baptist Church from March 1988 until September 2002. He is the founder of Second Timothy Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as pastor from October 2002 until his death on Saturday 6, 2008. Pastor Dixon also served as an active leader among Baptists throughout the states of Alabama and Michigan. He was associated with the General Baptist State Convention of Michigan and the Central District Association of Detroit, Michigan. Pastor Dixon will be greatly missed by the many lives that he has touched.
