Obituary

Today, we celebrate the life and precious memories of Mrs. Mary Ella Jones. We the family, extend a special expression of thanksgiving in our hearts for the life she fully lived. We feel deeply blessed and grateful to have shared in her unselfish love and affection. Mrs. Mary Ella Jones was born on March 28, 1924 to the late Quintella Eatman and William (Dahl) Harris in Buhl, Alabama. She departed this life with loving devoted family members by her side on Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at Erie County Medical Center (E.M.C.) in Buffalo, New York. As a young child, Mary Ella confessed Christ and joined Hollie Spring Baptist Church in Romulus, AL. She married L.C. Jones, Sr., and relocated to Fosters, AL where she continued God's work as a faithful and courageous Christian soldier. Mary Ella's devotion and love for the church led her to serve in numerous capacities including church mother, missionary president, Sunday school superintendent, matrons' advisor, youth counselor, and other ministries. As time passed, and her health continually declined, and with knowledge and concern for the church in mind, Mary Ella sadly relinquished all of her leadership roles and moved to Buffalo, NY. Under the care of her daughters, Glendora and Artesia, she joined the Friendship Missionary Baptist Church and became an active member in good standing until her health failed entirely. In route to her heavenly home, Mary Ella was proceeded in death by her parents: Quintella Eatman-Harris and William Harris; step-mother: Lucille Epps; son: L.C. Jones Jr.; four sisters: Avery Harris-Cannon, Mary L. Harris-Henderson, Inez Harris-Shepherd; Fayola Harris-Foster; two brothers: John William Harris and Henry James Harris; two grandchildren: William and Curtis Nixon; and two great-grand: Kenneth and Keith Nixon.
