Louise McDowell. was born May 24, 1919 to the late Austin and Claudies Wells, in Gainesville, Alabama. Her brothers (Austin, Sr., Dave, and Levi Wells) and sisters (Annie Gray, Lucy Hubbert, Hannah Williams, Alberta Walton, and Vercy Daniels) preceded her in death. She attended school in Sumter County, Alabama and joined Church at an early age at the Antioch Baptist Church, Gainesville. Her husband of 68 years, Perkins McDowell also preceded her in death. After moving to Tuscaloosa, Alabama, she joined the St. Paul Baptist Church where she was a faithful member serving as a Deaconess and missionary member. She was a long time member of the Order of Eastern Star.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 13, at St. Paul Baptist Church; Rev. Jerry Seay, Pastor. Burial will follow in the Spring Valley Baptist Church Cemetery, Gainesville, AL in Sumter County with Williams Funeral Home directing. The body will lie in state one hour prior to services at the church. Family visitation will be at the church prior to the services from 10:00-10:45 a.m.
She went to heaven on June 6, 2009 and leaves to cherish her loving memory sons: Perkins McDowell, Jr. (Gloria) and Ken McDowell; daughters: Lena Williams Barnes (Vernon), Carrie Berry, Geri Griffin, Elois Prude (Henry, Jr.), Vera Key (Don), Glenda Green (Melvin), Patricia Thicklin (Leonard), and Brenda McDowell, ten grandchildren: Kimberly Hyche, Perkins McDowell III, Kendall Prude (Samihah), Shondra Prude, Nadia McDowell, Trinese McDowell, Lendsey Thicklin, Martin McDowell Green, Austin Thicklin, and Nicholas Key; three great-grand children: Joshua Hyche, Kameryn Peoples and Kyla Prude; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
